The Beginning.

Recently I have decided to enter the dog rescue world as a foster home for boxers. This wasn't a decision made on the fly. I fall hard for the little fur-faces and I know it won't be easy to let them walk out of my life. I thought that fostering would be a way to help more than just the one extra dog that my house can support.

After thinking about my decision for a good long while I applied Friday February 10th via the online application form. I had not anticipated on hearing from anyone before Monday. In checking my email on Sunday afternoon I found that I had already gotten a response! They were looking for a current volunteer to come by and do a home visit.

I was contacted on Monday evening by a volunteer (I'm going to need to figure out how to refer to people here. I don't want to use real names, but I'm having a hard enough time keeping all these new people straight without purposely screwing their names up). Anyhow, she told me that I had hit the timing just right. She happened to be off work for the next few days and had the time to stop by. We set the time for the evening of February 14th.

When she (and her husband) stopped by they stayed for just a short while, dropped off some paperwork that I was to fill out, asked a few question, and they were on their way. All in all I think the visit took about 20 minutes. Granted, my condo is small and when you walk in the door you see most of it within 10 seconds. They seemed like very nice people and certainly liked my boxer dog, Bubby.

I received a note on the 15th that I was approved and they were already working on a foster for me! It looks like I'm going to get my first foster in the next week or so. I got a picture of two potentials (and they're making me choose!) today and I've decided on the younger of the two. We'll see if I'll be able to get him. By no means is the other dog old (he's only three), but my boy (at 6 years) is pretty set in his ways and will be very perturbed with me over the new (and unbeknownst to him temporary) addition to the house. I think that the 6 month old neutered male will be a gentler introduction than a three year old unneutered male.

So, off to this next great adventure!
